Rammstein. Rammstien! RAMMSTIEN! Sex ist eine schlacht Liebbe ist Krieg and a bunch of other words I donít understand.

Yup, Rammstein have come to Cape Town and blown our minds. The stage show was incredible and amounted to sensory overload. There were flamethrowers, fireworks, explosions, light displays, confetti showers and a boat that surfed the crowd.
At one stage, someone who looked like a stage crasher was set on fire. There was one moment when I thought I might get sunburnt from all the fireballs being blasted into the air. More times than I can recall I was jolted by loud bangs or explosions.
Oh yes, music was also involved. They played a number of tracks from their latest album ( Liebe ist für Alle Da ) and a number of old faithfuls: Du Hast, Fever Fri!, Benzin, Ich Will and many others. Links 2 3 4 ( really a song about dancing) felt a little bit too much like something out of a Nazi rally with Til Lindemann marching on the spot and the crowd chanting Links 2! Links 2! Links 2! Even if you took away all the special effects the music would have still been enough to carry the show.
The band’s performance was flawless. Some people I spoke to thought the event suffered slightly from not having an opening act. It just would, in their opinion, have made more of a night of it, considering how much the tickets cost.
Also Rammstien wouldn’t have had to carry the whole evening on their shoulders had there been an opening act. I agree that it would have made for a more complete concert; but if any band can hold its own on its own Rammstien can.
Big concerts also made easy access to the bar near impossible, by closing at least two of the closest bars about twenty minutes after the show started. This forced everyone I spoke to go all the way upstairs to get a beer. Not something you want to do once the show on. It is almost as though they don’t want to make money.
Overall, the show was awesome and no one I spoke to was disappointed. Rammstien have lived up to their reputation and are hands down the best live act I have seen. My ears will ring with their sonic onslaughts for days, if not weeks, to come.
