It’s hard to believe the adult orientated cable television network [adult swim] only premiered in 2001 (merely 8 years ago) it feels like I’ve been serving up brownies*_*, cocopop’s and an ecclectic array of CRAZY content from the networks’ menu my entire life. Let’s back it up for those still squinting at the screen thinking WTF is [adult swim]. The networks name [adult swim] is inspired by public swimming pools in America that label the designated times when children (in favour of adults) may not swim as "adult swim" times.
The network (who shares channel space with Cartoon Network) features animated shows, including original programming, syndicated shows, and Japanese anime - generally with minimal or no editing for content. You better believe the shows are geared towards audiences older than 18 - with strong stomaches - this isn’t fluffy prostitot stuff. The [adult swim] shows and commercial breaks are usually interrupted by "bumps", or moments where short jokes or Internet fan feedback are broadcast in simple white letters over a black screen.
Some of the more popular shows broadcast on the network are Cowboy Bebop (anime), Robot Chicken, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, The Boondocks, Family Guy, Futurama, Harvey Birdman, and American Dad. However there are a few gems I’d like to share with you which aren’t necessarily well known - with my top 5 list of [adult swim] served up right here for you to take note of. They’re must sees!

5. Space Ghost Coast to Coast
Space Ghost Coast to Coast is an animated spoof talk show. The show centers on numerous characters from the 60s Hanna-Barbera cartoon series Space Ghost, in which they return to host a humorous talk show shot and broadcast from Space Ghost’s studio (Ghost Planet Industries) on the Ghost Planet in outer space.
4.Superjail!
The series follows the events that take place in a rather unusual prison. Superjail! is characterized by its psychedelic shifts in setting and plot and extreme graphic violence. The elements are depicted through highly elaborate animated sequences, which have been described as "Baroque and complicated and hard to take in at a single viewing" which i translate as "trying to make logic of the show will require intense psychedelic enhancement."
3. Venture Bros
The Venture Bros chronicles the adventures of two dopey yet well-meaning teenage boys, Hank and Dean Venture; their emotionally insecure, ethically challenged, super-scientist father Dr. Thaddeus "Rusty" Venture; the family bodyguard, secret agent Brock Samson; and the family’s arch-nemesis, The Monarch. By far the most awesome array of characters - Brock is hilarious and is generally covered head to toe in blood and guts.
2. Lucy daughter of the devil
21-year-old Lucy lives in San Francisco and has been tapped by her father, the devil, to fulfill her destiny as the Antichrist - whether she likes it or not. Along the way she meets up with a DJ Jesús (pronounced HeyZeus) who turns out to be the second coming of the messiah - and the two begin dating from the first episode after Lucy saves him from a fire created by her father to kill him.

By far my very favourite show on the [adult swim] network Metalocalypse chronicles the band Dethklok which enjoy a popularity level unheard of in reality, ranking as the twelfth largest economy on Earth by the second season. Its popularity is such that impressionable fans will do anything its songs tell them to, even if that means death, which is usually the case. In "Dethgov", fans of Dethklok murder the governor of Florida after he disrespects lead singer Nathan Explosion, whom they then proceed to elect governor in a landslide write-in victory.
If Dethklok endorses a product or service, competitors are quickly driven out of business. Organizations worldwide, ranging from governments to businesses, go out of their way to avoid hindering Dethklok, to the point that the band is allowed to maintain its own police force and can get away with any crime imaginable with virtually no repercussions, albeit the band is often too ignorant to even notice that they are committing illegal acts.
